~ The UK’s very first Mexican Whiskey!
Douglas French, who moved from California to Oaxaca many moons ago dove headfirst into making Mezcal, which he loved to do and so very soon started to produce his very own Mezcal Scorpion. In 2015 he decided to start creating a Mexican Whiskey, using the finest heirloom corn. With such an incredible biodiversity as there is in and around Oaxaca the flavours of these fine whiskeys are simply delicious, each varying from the other as different types of corn is used: Yellow, black and white.
Did you know that maize in fact originates in Mexico and that over 7000 years ago the indigenous people of Mexico started domesticating it?
Because the traditional ways of farming are unable to keep up with the competitive GMO farming, this means that the ancient culture of using the ancestral corns is slowly dying, meaning the farmers would look elsewhere for jobs. In order to support this small network of hard workers Doug has developed these delicious corn whiskey recipes so that he can buy the ancient heirloom corn off the local villagers for a fair price.
Through this excellent creation, the local community is once again supported and therefore the cycle of sustainability is complete, with the profits returning to Oaxaca.
